SUPPORTING EDUCATION
At Rainbow Haven Kindergarten, we constantly incorporate exciting educational experiences relating to each child’s interests and needs into our programs. These experiences enhance children’s abilities in all areas of development and keep them active and stimulated. Below are examples of how some activities provided at Kindergarten do this:
| Dramatic Play | This is spontaneous and free of teacher direction. It provides opportunities for the children to understand their world and the people in it. |
| Sand Play | Encourages the use of fine and gross motor muscle development. It also provides for exploration and experimentation. |
| Blocks/Construction |
Helps children understand mathematics through experimenting with shape, size, quantity, weight, balance and space. |
| Puzzles | Helps develop counting and sequencing, size and shape comparisons, fine motor, co-ordination and visual discrimination. |
| Clay/Dough | Encourages expression of ideas and feelings, muscle and language development. |
| Outdoor Play | Promotes opportunities for physical expression and development. |
| Arts / Crafts | Is a means of self expression, which provides opportunity to explore and experiment with a variety of materials. Art and craft experiences allow children to focus on the process, not only the end product. |
| School Readiness | These lessons are aimed at strengthening pre-reading and writing, maths and science skills. It also prepares the children for the more formal learning experiences they encounter when they enter Kindergarten at “Big School”. |
| Meal Times | Meal times provide for a less formal learning environment where teachers and children sit down for meals as a “family”. During meal time, teachers and children discuss the days happenings and have the opportunity to talk about healthy eating. |
| Rest Time | Rest time allows time for rest and relaxation … a skill that many adults have forgotten! This quieter time of the day helps to allow children to fully enjoy the activities of the afternoon without being tired or restless. |
Our wonderful teaching team is always ready and happy to discuss your child’s progress and development with you.
